One architect. An AI organisation
Synlian is run by one human and an agentic workforce, under a written constitution and six delivery gates — and we think that is what organisations will look like.
Synlian is run by one human. Tony Murphy, the founder and chief architect, is the only person in the company. Everything else — analysis, design, implementation, testing, release, monitoring, and much of the writing you are reading — is done by an agentic workforce operating under his authority.
We state this plainly because it is true, because a prospective customer will work it out anyway, and because we believe it is what organisations will increasingly look like. We are simply early. But the claim only means something if we can explain how one person governs an organisation of agents without the whole thing becoming a machine that ships its own mistakes. That explanation is the point of this piece.
One signature that cannot be delegated
The founding rule is about accountability, not headcount. Every design decision, every release, and every irreversible action carries the architect's signature. Anything that moves money, decides credit, or touches production data requires human approval — no agent holds that authority, at any level of seniority, under any deadline pressure.
This is a control architecture, not a management style. The agents are numerous and fast; the human is singular and accountable. The design question we set out to answer was never "how little can one person do" but "what is the minimum set of decisions that must never leave human hands" — and then to build the organisation so that everything outside that set is delegated completely, and nothing inside it can be delegated at all.
An engineering team of twenty, none of them human
The platform is built by an AI engineering team of roughly twenty agents, each with a defined role: requirements analysis, domain design, implementation, testing, security review, release, monitoring. They operate under a written constitution — a standing document that defines each role's mandate, its boundaries, and its escalation rules. When an agent hits the edge of its mandate, the constitution says where the question goes; it does not say "use judgment".
Work moves through six delivery gates. Requirements and domain design come first. Contracts, tests and evaluations are written before code. Implementation is done by build agents against those contracts. A security review follows, and it is blocking — a finding stops the release, it does not annotate it. The architect signs off. Only then does a versioned release go out, with graduated rollout.
Every agent produces a daily written report, like a standing scrum in prose. The architect reads what the organisation did, not a summary of a summary. When something looks wrong, the trail from symptom to decision is already written down.
The same discipline runs inside the product
Here is the part we find most persuasive, and the reason a customer should care about our internal arrangements at all: the governance that builds SQF is the governance that runs inside it. The platform's own AI analysts — working credit risk, client relationships, operations and finance for our customers — operate under the same architecture: defined roles, graduated autonomy, mandatory human approval on anything irreversible, everything on the audit record.
We did not design one control system for our factory and a looser one for the product. There is one discipline, and we live inside it daily. When we tell a funder that an AI analyst can be paused instantly, or that a confidence threshold routes uncertain work to a person, we are describing machinery we depend on ourselves, every working day. We sell what we practise.
The honest part: discipline is the hard part
It would be easy to present this as effortless. It is not, and the difficulty is worth being precise about. Agents are tireless and consistent, but consistency cuts both ways: an ungoverned agent repeats a mistake at scale, at speed, without the instinct that makes a human developer pause. The constitution, the gates, and the blocking reviews exist because we have seen what happens without them — a plausible change that passes a shallow check and fails against reality.
So the working rule is severe: every feature ships with automated end-to-end tests against real infrastructure — real databases, real messaging, real bank-format files, never mocks. In the finance suites alone, 395 automated checks run after every change. The rule exists because a mocked test once passed while the real system failed, and we decided that class of surprise was one we would engineer away permanently rather than manage repeatedly.
None of this is headcount replacement theatre. We did not remove people from an org chart; we designed an organisation from first principles around one accountable human and asked what structure makes that safe. The answer turned out to be more process, more written record and more testing than most conventional teams carry — not less.
Why this matters to a customer
The practical case is pace and consistency. An agentic organisation ships at a rate a conventional vendor cannot match, and — governed properly — with more uniform quality, because nothing depends on who happened to review a change on a given Tuesday. The platform this organisation has produced is not a demonstration: it is a complete supply-chain finance system, from onboarding and KYC through credit decisions, offers, disbursement, collections and treasury, tested end to end against real infrastructure.
The deeper case is auditability. In a one-human organisation, "who decided this and why" always has an answer, and the answer is written down. Total delegation turns out to require total documentation — and a customer inherits that record.
We think the organisation of one is where much of the industry is heading. The interesting question was never whether agents can do the work. It is whether one accountable human can govern them to a standard a bank would accept. We built Synlian to be the working demonstration that the answer is yes.
